Green Schools Eco Ezine February 2013

Delphi Awarded Eco-Centre Flag

In October 2012 Rachel Boyle and Tiarnan McCusker, Green-Schools Officers with An Taisce, presented the first Eco-Centre Green Flag for an adventure centre to Delphi Adventure Centre, Leenane, Connemara, Co.Galway. Marie Lyons accepted the award on behalf of Delphi and the Eco-Centre Committee. The Eco-Centre programme promotes whole centre action towards a sustainable environment, the methodology for which is based on the Green-Schools programme. Just like Green-Schools, centres must implement the Seven Step process over a specific period of time before receiving the award. Speaking about Delphi's achievement, Rachel Boyle said Delphi Adventure Centre has really embraced the spirit of the programme and have worked extremely hard towards achieving their goals. The Eco-Centres Programme provides a means to link the Green-Schools Programme as applied in primary and secondary curricula to field trips and project work, providing continuity in environmental education. There is great demand for this programme and a real opportunity to emphasise the link with other An Taisce programmes such as Green-Schools and Clean Coasts." Congratulations to Delphi Adventure Centre on their achievement!
